Have you ever wondered just how incredible your dog’s nose really is?
Whether you have a young puppy, an older dog, a rescue, a reactive dog or simply want to do something mentally enriching together, Scent Detection Foundations is the perfect place to start.
Over this practical, fun and supportive course, you and your dog will learn how to work as a team whilst developing confidence, focus and communication.
On the course you will learn:
How a dog’s incredible sense of smell really works
How to safely introduce a target odour using reward-based methods
Learn the sit or freeze indication when they’ve found the odour
Searching containers, vehicles and indoor environments
Reading your dog’s body language and changes in behaviour during a search
How scent moves through different environments and how weather affects odour
Correct reward placement and building motivation
Search techniques and handling skills to develop confident, independent searching
How to set up fun searches at home between sessions
The science behind scent detection and why it’s one of the most enriching activities you can do with your dog
Suitable for all breeds, all ages and all abilities.
No previous experience is required, and reactive dogs can be accommodated.
By the end of the course you’ll have the knowledge and confidence to continue your scent detection journey, whilst giving your dog an activity that taps into what they were born to do.
